Surface Preparation
Q: Is oxalic acid a good cleaner for a deck?

A: Yes, under certain conditions. Oxalic acid has two great attributes:
    1) It will remove tannin bleed from Cedar and Redwood.
    2) It will remove rust stains from all types of wood.

If your deck, fence or siding has tannin stains or nail bleed, then an oxalic acid cleaner is a good choice. Otherwise, an oxygen bleach-based cleaner, such as WOLMAN Deck & Fence Brightener for Pressure-Treated Wood is recommended.
